The Fergus Falls Forestry Department maintains the trees on public property including all boulevard trees and trees within the City Parks system.  The Forestry Department is based out of the Park, Recreation and Forestry office located at 1029 E. Washington Ave.  For more information about forestry related issues, contact City Forester Andrew Nelson at 218-332-5809.

What does the Forestry Department do?

The Forestry Department maintains the trees on the boulevards and in the parks. This maintenance includes pruning and trimming which is done in the winter months when trees are dormant.   Tree trimming is done to maintain adequate street and sidewalk clearance, to remove dead and broken branches, and to allow for clearance for buildings and street signs.

Tree Trimming Requests

We ask that homeowners do not trim the boulevard trees. It is best to call our office at 218-332-5809 and ask for a trimming request, it is safer for the homeowner and for the trees, as improper pruning cuts can lead to wounding that harms the trees.

Commercial Contractors

Commercial contractors cannot trim or prune public property trees unless specifically authorized by the City.
If you have an issue with a boulevard tree, please feel free to contact the city.    If a tree located on private property needs attention, please contact a tree trimming service.

If you need tree work completed the city can reference, but not recommend contractors to work with.

Diseased Trees

If the city marks a tree for removal due to Dutch Elm Disease, a letter will be sent to the property owner.   Property owners will be invoiced after the tree has been removed.

Brush is accepted at the landfill year-round at no charge to resident.
