PROGRAM INTENT

The purpose of the Single and Two Family Property Tax Rebate Program is to encourage the construction of new primary residence single and two-family housing units and to encourage replacement of dilapidated housing structures within Otter Tail County between January 1, 2020 and December 31, 2024. 

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

  • Rebate of the City's portion of property tax based on the increase to real estate taxes as a result of building a new home, up to $5,000 or over 5 years (whichever is met first)
  • Primary residences only, must be owner-occupied (no rentals)
  • Estimated project value must be at or below $400,000
  • Applicant can be future homeowner or builder/developer
  • Rebate paid to the owner of record in December of the year, transfers once with sale of the property from builder to owner
  • Program approval should be received before construction begins

The Single and Two Family Property Tax Rebate Program is the result of a County initiative called "The Big Build", through which an additional $5,000 of property taxes owed to the County may be rebated for a total of $10,000 in property tax rebates on new single and two-family builds. For more information, please review the full program guidelines through Otter Tail County.

To apply for a tax rebate from the City of Fergus Falls and/ or Otter Tail County, complete this application and return to Otter Tail County Community Development Agency C/O Amy Baldwin, who will work with City of Fergus Falls Community Development Staff to submit your application to the Fergus Falls City Council:
